Afterword

This is spoilers if you have not yet played the original VN!
Thanks for playing I'm Scared of You!
Because of how short the VN is and also how short making this VN was (about 14-16 days) I decided not to put an afterword in the actual game. For the same reason, I won't make this very long either.,
To start, this game was MUCH more doable and timely and I have the proof that I only needed 1 Notepad document to keep the drafts as well as just 1 page to keep all the thumbnails! Wahoo! Drawing took much more time than writing thanks to trying to improve my drawing skills - I have pages of me trying to figure out things like how hands or the wrinkles on clothing work. I also tried out an art style different from the blobbier style of Unremembered, Unforgotten. I don't think it turned out better but I do think I got a bit better at understanding proportions, principles, and stuff.
I also never mentioned this in the devlog for Unforgotten but in addition to multiple docs I kept for the writing I also had to make multiple FireAlpaca files just because the program couldn't handle the amount of layers and images I was making. Everything was much more contained and simple to make with just the 1 I needed for Scared!
Anyways, in addition to the change in art style, I also wanted to focus on making a much shorter story that was more focused on certain themes. If Unforgotten was very blunt and direct, then I wanted Scared to be more subtle. For example, what do you think 'Death' stands for if it's not the idea of death itself? And yes I know the Notepad doc is titled 'Intimacy' but that's just the initial working title. I actually ended up changing the meaning of Death as I was writing out the first and second drafts! And the working title became 'Scared' instead.
Speaking of which, I never gave the characters names this time, just referring to Death as 'Death' and the protag as 'Scared' or 'Me' in the files. I didn't give much thought into their backgrounds either as this was more of a pondering story. I admit that it might have given the characters and the dialogue more flavor not to mention the images and sounds suggest the action going on rather than me having written out any of it. That means you have to identify details like huh! This was just the protag's night out with their date, they're coworkers at the same place, it looks like they shared a chocolate cake at the diner, and they've probably been dating for awhile because of (insert reason here).
This is a VN that really exists entirely in the head of the protagonist and I wonder if it's even acceptable in as short a VN as this. To try and make up for that, I tried to make the protag's thoughts colorful and metaphorical so that it would be entertaining. I ended up making a lot of references to Greek/Roman mythology to the point that it made it to the cover image and the color scheme of the project and itch.io page. What meaning there is in making these references, I leave that up to you. I even edited the note I made to myself in the screenshot of the Notepad doc so you'd guess!
Anyways, I plan to do more short projects in the future but I think I'll take more time (and breaks) than I did for this V!
Once again, thank you for playing!
